Holy Holy Holy

image

Art Journal note:

For this page, I was feeling like making a little bit of a mess, so got out my lovely acrylic paints, and chose vibrant red, orange and yellow colours that seemed to match the lyrics of the song. I got really stuck in and used my fingers to quickly blend in the colours a bit on the page. After clearing up(!) the page was dry enough to write out the song lyrics around the edge, and I had a go at a bit of gothic style calligraphy in the centre of the page, to declare that Jesus is Holy, Holy, Holy!

Tip: acrylic paints dry really quickly, always keep water handy for your brush and if possible just use one or two colours at a time to keep the paint from drying out in your palate. If you want to blend colours on the page, work quickly and use paint that is fairly wet in consistency.

This page was inspired by the beautiful worship song ‘Holy’ by Matt Redman. If you haven’t heard it before or want to hear it again, do check it out here:

                 “Holy” by Matt Redman
What heart could hold the weight of Your love
And know the heights of Your great worth
What eyes could look on Your glorious face
Shining like the sunYou are holy, holy, holy
God most high and God most worthy
You are holy, holy, holy
Jesus, You are, Jesus, You are

Your name alone has power to raise us
Your light will shine when all else fades
Our eyes will look on Your glorious face
Shining like the sun
Who is like You, God?

Who shall we say You are
You’re the living God
Who shall we say You are
You’re the Great I AM
The highest name of all
You’re all You say You are

And You shall come again in glory
To judge the living and the dead
All eyes will look on Your glorious face
Shining like the sun
Who is like You, God?

       You are holy, holy, holy
God most high and God most worthy
You are holy, holy, holy
Jesus, You are, Jesus, You are

In Revelation 4 verse 8, we learn that in heaven the four living creatures, before the throne of God, day and night never stop saying:

“‘Holy, holy, holy

is the Lord God Almighty,

who was, and is, and is to come.”

What an amazing picture. Whenever I read Revelation chapter 4 I am always filled with awe and wonder, and feel an intense need to join with heaven in worshipping God.

Heavenly Father, we declare that you are Holy and that there is no one like You – You are God most High and God most worthy. Your light will shine when all else fades.
Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty.
In the name of Jesus, the highest name of all. Amen.

The Father is seeking…

IMG_0742

Art Journal Note: here I have used a magazine picture of some spring flowers, I love the picture as it shows the new flowers pushing up through the old dead brown leaves left after the autumn and winter. The most well known part of the verse I have written on little bunting flags made from blank sheet music paper (the ampersand reminded me a little bit of a treble clef!) & tiny scraps of scrapbook paper, cut in triangles and glued to narrow ribbon, strewn across the background. The main verse is handwritten using one of my favourite pens, a simple white gel pen.

“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. For the Father is seeking such people to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

John 4:23-24

Here, in this familiar and well loved passage, Jesus is talking to the woman at the well. He has a lengthy conversation with her, revealing such deep truths about God to a Samaritan woman – this is a woman with a bad reputation, from a despised culture! I love the extravagant grace He extends to her, showing us that no one is beyond His reach. He is full of surprises.

What has struck me anew with this passage is where Jesus says:

“For the Father is seeking such people to worship Him.”

Wow. Jesus said that the Father is seeking. Looking. Searching. He is on a mission to find true worshippers who worship Him in spirit and truth.

This verse to me, is a ‘Wake Up!’ moment. A call to examine how I worship the Father. I want to be one of the true worshippers, that the Father is seeking!

I admit I have had moments, despite my best intentions, when I have fallen far short of this, when I have been lukewarm, or followed along with a routine of worship without really engaging my mind or heart, when I may have been physically present but elsewhere thinking about other things.

But the Father is actively seeking those who worship Him in spirit –  deep, meaningful, surrendering worship from the heart, soul, mind, will, and emotion – all that I am. And in truth – to me this means living out our daily lives walking in His ways as an act of worship. Not saying one thing to God, and then living our lives our own way.

Father God, help me to understand more of how you want me to worship you, in spirit and truth. I’m sorry for the many times I fall short. I want to be a true worshipper, the kind that you, my Heavenly Father, are seeking. I pray that as I give you my very best, honest worship in spirit and truth, you would find what you are looking for, in me.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
