My Lighthouse

My Lighthouse
My Lighthouse

Art Journal Note:

This was painted straight onto an art journal page, using black and white acrylic paints. The beams of light were cut from hollographic card (photo doesn’t do this justice!), glued in place, and the words are written with my white gel pen.

Rend Collective, “My Lighthouse”

In my wrestling and in my doubts
In my failures you won’t walk out
Your great love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled sea…
In the silence you won’t let go
In the questions your truth will hold
Your great love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled sea…
My lighthouse, my lighthouse, shining in the darkness, I will follow you…
I will trust the promise, You will carry me safe to shore.

Today’s art journal page was inspired by the wonderful song by The Rend Collective, “My Lighthouse”.

If you haven’t heard it yet, do check it out:
If lighthouses had been around in biblical times, they definitely would have made it into Psalms! They are a great metaphor to describe our God, who is: our strong tower, our fortress, our deliverer, our rock of refuge, our strength, our hope, our ever present help in times of trouble.
My favourite line from the song says “You are the peace in my troubled sea”. In my experience it’s only occasionally that He brings peace to the circumstances by calming the waves. It’s much more usual for Him to bring peace to me, when I ask Him, which guides me through the storms of life. Helping me navigate. Giving me strength for each given moment as it’s needed. Giving me wisdom to help make decisions. Bringing a sense of perspective when there is chaos. Peace in my troubles.
The purpose of the lighthouse is to warn those at sea in the storm to avoid the rocks that will sink them. Sailors in a storm would use lighthouses to help them to navigate and be guided through the storm, away from the dangers, and to safety – they save lives.
This art journal page prompted me to try to turn this into a picture, so I got an art canvas and my acrylics and painted this, to go on my walls as a daily reminder that He is my peace in my troubled sea.
You are the Peace in my troubled sea.
You are the Peace in my troubled sea.
Heavenly Father, thank you that your light shines in the darkness. Through the doubts and fears, and the storms of my circumstances and situations that threaten to overwhelm me at times. All I need to do is look to You, and trust that you will lead me safe to shore. You are the Peace in my troubled sea.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
