Be my Rock of Refuge

image

Art Journal Note:

For this page I was inspired by this lovely picture ripped out from a clothes catalogue, which was a perfect match for this verse. I stuck the picture in, and as the sky in the picture was a bit grey I painted it blue with some acrylic paint to liven up the page a bit. I also added some die-cut flower shapes I had, and wrote the verse on with a black pen.

Tip: you don’t have to just use brushes when painting! When adding the blue acrylic paint to this picture, I used an old plastic store points card, applied the paint along one edge and swiped it across the paper. It gives a lovely different, smooth effect.

Be my rock of refuge,

to which I can always go.

Psalm 71 v 3

I love this verse, which is a heart cry to God, that we want to be able to always run to Him. I love this image I found of the woman resting in the dip in the rock, it just speaks of how we can always hide ourselves in God, tuck ourselves away in His love and rest in his strength.

I’ve been reminded of this wonderful hymn, the words are rich with truth and relevance to our daily lives:

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

Heavenly Father, thank you that I can always go to You, at any time, any place, in any situation – and You are always there for me. You are my constant, never changing, never failing place of security, protection and safety that I can run to. I love to rest in You, and hide myself in You.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand. Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go.

In Jesus name, Amen.
