Seek His Face

Art Journal note:

For this page I used a magazine picture of an amazing image of space. I find these sorts of pictures taken from telescopes in space (such as Hubble) really fascinating, and incredibly beautiful. I wrote this verse onto the page using some metallic markers.

My heart says of you, “Seek his face!”

Your face, LORD, I will seek.

Psalm 27 verse 8

I love to look up at the sky on a starry night. I love the feeling of awe and wonder that it fills me with.

Last year I had the amazing opportunity to look at the surface of the moon through a proper telescope and was talked through it all by a very knowledgeable friend. It was incredible. I could see mountains and valleys and craters, light and shadows on the surface of the moon.

A few years ago while camping, it was dark enough for me to see the best view I had ever seen of the night sky – it would have been impossible to count the stars that night, and for the first time I could see the milky way galaxy stretched out across the sky above me – with no need for a telescope.

Looking up at the moon and stars from way down here, makes me feel tiny and just a speck in the universe. Yet far from making me feel insignificant, it actually makes me feel very loved by God. This is purely because of the Word of God and what He has told us repeatedly in the Bible – that we are no accident. We have been chosen. For a purpose.

When I consider the vastness of His creation, the precision in which He has set things in place, the maths, physics and all of science cannot possibly ever hope to understand all that God did when He created the heavens and the earth. I am sure God enjoys seeing us trying to figure it all out – after all He created us with inquisitive minds. Yet to me it’s sad when some people miss the point, in all their questioning and searching.

After you look at ‘What’ He created, the most important question to ask is not so much ‘How?’ but ‘Why?’.

For me, considering the stars, galaxies and universe simply points me towards God.

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world

to be holy and blameless in his sight.

Ephesians 1 verse 4

And then there’s grace. That even though He created us – before He even started creation – He knew we would mess it all up with our sin, and He still chose us to be His, and to be holy and blameless in His sight – through Jesus.

So when my heart whispers, “Seek His face”, my reply is a resounding “Yes! Your face LORD I will seek!”.

Heavenly Father, thank you that you chose me in Jesus before the creation of the world. Thank you that I am chosen because I am deeply loved, and you have always intended that I would belong to You. Thank you for making me holy and blameless in Your sight, through Jesus my Lord and Saviour.

Father, my heart says, “Seek His face!”

LORD, I will seek Your face.

In Jesus name, Amen.
